Mobile Phones in School

Following an increase of incidents involving mobile phones in school, I’m writing to remind parents that for a number of reasons, children are not permitted to bring them. Apart from the obvious safeguarding risks and cost of equipment involved, they can lead to mixed communications and confusion surrounding arrangements between the parent and school.

There is much research being done, particularly with older children, regarding the use of personal devices in school to enhance education. While this is likely to be a reality in the future, IT infrastructures and safeguarding processes are not yet in place for such an approach to work at present – particularly in a primary setting.

Should there be an exceptional need for your child to bring a mobile device to school (e.g it’s needed after school), an agreement will need to be made with class teacher and the phone will be locked in the office during the school day and returned to the child at home time.

Thank you for your support with this important issue.
