As you know, last autumn
we held parent/pupil workshops on how to develop the LNF (Literacy and Numeracy
Framework) skills at home. Following a year of research and consultation with
pupils, parents and staff, it was felt this was the most meaningful and
effective approach to homework and parents supporting their child’s development
out of school.
To raise the profile of
this approach to home-school learning,
we have launched a competition in school. Children and parents are encouraged
to look at the LNF skills information that’s been sent home from each class
along with the suggestions of how to practice these skills in a real life
context. We would ask that anyone having a go at the activities (or indeed
creating their own if preferred) submits a piece of evidence in substitute of
the traditional ‘hand in.’ This could be a photograph, a tweet (make sure you
include @ffynnontafpri in the body of the message or we won’t see it), a model,
a drawing or anything else that shows that one of the suggested skills was
practiced out of school.
The deadline for this
‘homework’ is Friday 14th July. At this point, we’ll count how many
pieces of evidence we have collected from each class and the class with the
most will get to choose an afternoon activity from a variety of fun options.
We look forward to your
support in this activity. Should you not have received the LNF skills or
suggestions, please contact your child’s teacher.
