Dan-y-Wenallt Day One

Last Wednesday the year 5 children from Dosbarth Llew and Dosbarth Rhino Gwyn set off for an action packed few days at the Dan-y-Wenallt residential centre in Talybont, Brecon. We excitedly arrived at the centre at lunchtime and the children could not eat their lunch fast enough before exploring the old farmhouse and checking out their rooms. We then met Ron who works for National Parks and would be leading our activities for the next few days.

During the afternoon, the children took part in a series of problems, puzzles and team building activities around the site. All of these led to a clue which combined, enabled the teams to unlock a treasure chest at the end of the day. Great fun was had by all and everyone was certainly ready for their dinner (great food as always!). In the evening, Ron took the children out into the woods to lay safe mammal traps with the aim of catching and studying some of the local wildlife. The children also set up a night vision camera that's activated only by motion. This would enable us to see what creatures were out and about while we slept.

To end the day, we walked up to the reservoir for some photo opportunities before returning to the house for a spot of 'Ffynnon Taf's got Talent!' It wasn't the earliest of nights!!
