HWB is coming!

THE ARRIVAL OF Ffynnon Taf Primary’s NEW LEARNING PLATFORM

We are excited to announce the launch of our school’s new learning platform. This is a virtual learning environment (VLE) created especially for our school by the Welsh Assembly Government. It can be accessed from any computer connected to the internet meaning that both you and our pupils can access the platform anywhere.

How will it work?

Every class has their own homepage created by their class teacher, which can present the topic they are studying at present and provides pupils access to activities, tasks, and interactive websites connected to that topic.

As parents, you will be able to work alongside your child and communicate with their teacher via the platform. HWB+ enables your child to access their class homepage and complete homework and lesson tasks on the computer before submitting it to their teacher via the platform. Teachers can set up discussion forums connected with pupils’ school work and children can submit their comments to develop their communication and reasoning skills relative to any topic of work.  Hwb+ also ensures work is clearly displayed and information communicated to all as children can message each other and their teachers in the safe environment of the learning platform. Outings, assemblies, newsletters, photos (with permission) and pieces of work can all be displayed for all the children in the school to see. There is also the possibility to link with other schools and complete twinning projects. This can all be readily accessible on your child’s homepage.

Access and Safety

Safety on the Internet is of utmost importance and has been kept in mind at every stage of Hwb+’s development.  By the end of the week, a user agreement and safeguarding documents will be sent home to be signed which reinforces and highlights accessibility and safety in more detail. This needs to be returned to school as soon as possible.

Each child in the school has been given their own user name and individual password to access their homepage and the parts of the Platform they have permission for.  Teachers can see everything that the children have taken part in and posted on any forum. School teachers oversee all content within Hwb+ and will take any action where any element of our school Internet safety policy is considered to be breached.

The Platform will enhance the learning opportunities we can offer children, as it will have links to a wide variety of activities and websites connected with the theme work as well as all other areas of the curriculum.  It is also very easy for children of all ages, including nursery, to use.

We are looking forward to all the opportunities this will open for our enhanced learning, communication and collaboration at Ffynnon Taf Primary and we look forward to hearing your feedback as we start this new venture together.

If you have any queries about Hwb+ then please do not hesitate to contact the school.
