School Council,
Eco-Committee and Criw Cymraeg elections are almost upon us. They will take
place on Thursday 29th September with the results being announced in
a special assembly the following day.
Children will give
presentations to their classmates to explain why they are the best person to
represent the class within any of the above groups. They will need to
demonstrate they have the key skills of a class rep. and be willing to answer
questions from their audience. If children wish to stand for the councils they
have been set the presentation as homework with a deadline by their class
teacher.
The presentation can be
any format the child wishes and we would ask parents to give their children any
help they can (even if it's just to listen to them practice). As the council
will involve children from Year 1 - Year 6, the content of the presentation
will be very age specific and could simply be two or three reasons why that child
would make a good representative. I have attached information overleaf that
highlights the skills required to be a good councillor and this would be an
excellent starting point.
Once the presentations
have been given and the various councils voted in, the following will take
place:
- Various roles will be given within the council/committee/criw - Chairperson, Vice-Chairperson etc.
- Meetings will by hosted by Mr Worth or Miss Ratliff (School Council), Mrs Bailey (Eco-Committee) and Mrs Howells (Criw Cymraeg) on a regular basis.
- The councils will attend some Governor and WLFTFA Meetings to feedback and give their opinions.
- The councils will be given a budget to spend and will be responsible for welcoming a variety of visitors to the school.
- The school council will have a guided tour of the Senedd and learn about how the Welsh Government works.
We look forward to getting
the new councils up and running and wish all interested children the very best
of luck in their campaigns!
