Proposed Cuts to Nursery Provision

As you may have already heard, RCT have launched a consultation period on their proposals to reduce the council budget. These proposals include cutting the library service, reducing ‘Meals on Wheels’ provision, E3 Youth activities and day centres. However, the proposal with the largest impact on school is that to reduce nursery and pre-nursery provision to half day from September. Full details of all the cuts can be found in a council leaflet downloadable from www.rct.gov.uk/servicechanges1 or hard copies are available from Mrs James in the school office.

As a school, we have many concerns about this proposal ranging from our children’s education and well-being to possible staff job losses. We are currently working on a number of ways of maintaining our provision as it is, including ‘paid’ afternoon sessions or splitting pre-nursery and nursery into morning/afternoon sessions. As soon as we have firm proposals in place, we will launch our own consultation period with parents to decide on a way forward.

The RCT consultation period lasts for just four weeks so there is only a brief time to have your say. The leaflets referred to above include a section for you to give your feedback on the planned cuts and as a school (and supporter of our local library) we would urge you to take this opportunity! Alternatively, you can email servicechanges1@rctcbc.gov.uk or send a letter to The Consultation Team, Strategy, Public Relations and Tourism Division, The Pavilions, Clydach Vale CF40 2XX.
