Big Writing is coming...

You may have noticed that your child has this week brought home some ‘talk homework’. This links with the launch of ‘Big Writing’ in Years 2 – 6. I will be sending home details of what this is and what it entails soon, but in short the children will be taking part in a special session of extended writing each Friday. An important part of this process is the opportunity for your child to talk about what they are going to write during the Big Writing session - if children can’t discuss and verbalise their ideas, how can they be expected to write them down?

By helping your child with this it will enable them to:
• Think through and discuss initial ideas for their Big Writing
• Get their writing ideas clear in their heads by thinking about and discussing the order of what they will write
• Develop their vocabulary and use of WOW words!
Talk homework will give parents the chance to be involved in their child’s development as a writer. Thank you for your cooperation in this and look out for more details, including how the younger classes are also getting involved, later in the week. Happy talking!
