While the overall
response is positive, we are always open to constructive criticism and seeking
new ways to improve. As a school it is not often possible to ‘please all of the
people all of the time’ but we will always identify trends in opinion and
endeavour to develop these areas. As a result of this year’s survey, the
following targets have been set:
1
|
|
There is
currently a lack of clarity and consistency in the amount of homework and for
what subject areas homework is given. In the short term, we will provide a
simple checklist of the homework that will be provided in each year group and
the frequency this will be given. In the longer term, we will be developing a
brand new approach to homework that takes account of changes to the
curriculum and educational research. We will consult with parents and pupils
throughout the process and invite parents in to explain the new policy once
completed.

We will continue
to meet statutory requirements by conducting two ‘formal’ opportunities a
year for you to come into school and discuss your child’s progress as well as
an annual written report from the class teacher. If you have concerns at any
point in the year regarding your child’s progress, you are welcome to make an
appointment with your child’s teacher to discuss (this is above and beyond
statutory requirements). If your child’s teacher has any concerns, the same
applies vice versa. At the start of every topic we will continue to send a
‘Curriculum News’ leaflet that explains what the children will be learning
and how you can help at home.

Extra-curricular
clubs are a non-statutory part of school life. As such, some schools choose
to run them while others do not. At Ffynnon Taf we believe that these
additional opportunities to develop are worthwhile and we are lucky enough to
have staff that will give up their time to run them. Where possible, we
ensure these clubs are free of charge. However, when using outside agencies,
this is not always the case. These clubs are designed to extend learning or
develop skills in a particular area – they should not be considered childcare
provision. For the first time, we will be working with such a provision to
provide childcare or ‘wrap around’ as an additional service. You will be
contacted separately regarding this. Children who are part of this provision
are still welcome to take part in the teacher led school clubs.
