As you may recall, I have written to you
several times over the last year regarding the Welsh Government National Tests
in reading and numeracy. These tests are based on a new National Literacy and
Numeracy Framework (LNF) which was introduced on a statutory basis from
September 2013.
The LNF identifies annual literacy and
numeracy expectations and is designed to help children develop their literacy
and numeracy skills through all subjects, not just their discreet English and
Mathematics lessons. Many of these skills, once acquired, can be applied and
reinforced at home through everyday ‘real life’ activities and we are very keen
to get parents on board.
Mr Brown and Myself will be presenting an
overview of the LNF on Wednesday 19t February (please note the
change of date from the newsletter) at 5pm in the school hall. The presentation
will last around 20 minutes and give parents the opportunity to find out about
what the LNF is, why it has been introduced, how the school is using it to
enhance our curriculum and most importantly, how you can help out at home!
We will send out a reminder flyer closer to
the time and we look forward to your support.
