While the overall
response is positive, we are always open to constructive criticism and seeking
new ways to improve. As a school it is not often possible to ‘please all of the
people all of the time’ but we will always identify trends in opinion and
endeavour to develop these areas. As a result of this year’s survey, the
following targets have been set:

While we are
proud of the behaviour of the majority of our children, there were increased
incidents of disruptive behaviour from small groups of children in two of our
classes. Much work was done last year
in creating a clear and fair behaviour policy while at the same time
developing as a ‘Thrive’ school. ‘Thrive’ enables staff to understand where
incidents of poor behaviour and dis-regulation originate and to work with
individuals to develop strategies to control these and form better
relationships. We are confident we will see this work making an impact this
year.

Again, a lot of
work was undertaken last year in developing a new approach to homework. A
‘homework’ week where parents will be invited into school will be held at the
end of September. Further details to follow shortly.

We will be
running a food nutrition project with the school council this term. This will
culminate in the review of our own snack provision and the publication of new
guidance for parents.

Extra-curricular
clubs are a non-statutory part of school life. As such, some schools choose
to run them while others do not. At Ffynnon Taf we believe that these
additional opportunities to develop are worthwhile and we are lucky enough to
have staff that will give up their time to run them. Where possible, we
ensure these clubs are free of charge. However, when using outside agencies,
this is not always the case. These clubs are designed to extend learning or
develop skills in a particular area – they
should not be considered childcare provision. We will endeavour to
provide a more balanced range of clubs throughout the year (in terms of age
range and theme) but would remind parents that we also have a very good value
child care provision that can be booked flexibly for your convenience. We aim
to increase the hours of this service to 6pm in the near future.

We are currently
looking at ways of ‘streamlining’ how we communicate with parents. The more
channels there are for communication, the more opportunities for a message to
be missed. This will include using ICT more effectively and ‘working towards’
becoming a paperless school. We will continue to meet statutory requirements
for reporting on pupils’ progress and will ensure we have explained to
parents what these actually are.

Further details of
the work we are doing to achieve the above targets will be sent home shortly.
In the meantime, if you would like to discuss any element of this survey or the
targets, please do not hesitate to contact us in school.
