Healthy Week Sponsored Challenges

This year our ‘Healthy Week’ will be held on the week commencing 14th May. To end the week we will be holding sponsored events on Friday 18th May to raise funds for additional playground and outdoor equipment. Last year, our obstacle races and climb of the Garth Mountain raised almost £1500 and part-funded the school’s trim trail. This year we have some brand new challenges for the children (and staff!).

Nursery, Reception, Year 1, Year 2 and Year 3 (Teigr, Eliffant, Cangarw, Coala & half of Rhino Gwyn) will take part in Taff Trail rambles of varying difficulty (based on age). The teachers have planned interesting routes to follow that present an achievable and fun challenge.

Meanwhile, Years 4, 5 & 6 (Llew and the older half of Rhino Gwyn) will take on the big challenge of climbing Pen y Fan, the highest peak in South Wales.  Those that have climbed this mountain before will know there are two climbs, a fast but steep one and a slow safe walk up the side. Obviously, for safety reasons, we will be taking the slower route (though this will be no less of a challenge!)

To ensure there is time to complete the climb, we will need to be on the mountain during our lunch hour. We would ask that all children taking part in the climb bring a packed lunch to school on that day along with plenty to drink. Sensible outdoor clothing and trainers should be worn to school that day along with a coat in case of rain. If for any reason you do not wish your child to take part in either the ramble or the climb, please let your child’s teacher know as soon as possible. We will also be looking for parent volunteers to help us on the day (and indeed collect their own sponsors if they wish). If you fancy getting involved, let Mrs. James or myself know.

As usual, children will be reminded of safe sponsor collection in an assembly. All forms and money should be returned to school by the morning of the 18th May. Thank you once again for your continued support.
