St David's Day Eisteddfod 2012

We celebrated St David's Day in style at Ffynnon Taf with all the children and staff coming to school in Welsh themed costume. We had countless rugby tops, Welsh lady costumes, dragons and even daffodils that only added to the great atmosphere in school on Thursday.

During the morning session, children took part in a variety of themed art and craft activities including flag creating, rugby kit designing, daffodil sketching, weaving and making dragon kites. Some of the skill and creativity on show was extremely impressive, so much so that we will be creating a special display in the hall to show off the results.

We held our traditional Eisteddfod in the afternoon where the winners of the class poetry competitions were announced by Mr Brown. Each teacher also awarded first to fourth placements for the art work created in their classes that morning. Each of these results had a reward of housepoints and these were added up throughout the afternoon by Miss Morris - congratulations to Ty Gwyrdd for winning the most! Throughout the results we also had singing performances from lower foundation phase, dancing from upper foundation phase, poetry recitals from Dosbarth Llew and a number of whole school songs (including of course the national anthem).

The event ended with the chairing of The Bard and The Mini-Bard (new for this year). Huge congratulations to Lewis Walsh for winning the Bard crown and to Thea Davies for being chaired the first 'Mini-Bard.' I will add both of their fantastic poems ('Ten things found in a Welshman's pocket') shortly. Some pictures of the day are posted below. Further images, including the infant winners, will be added on Monday.
