Uganda Visit

I am very excited to have been given the opportunity to visit our Ugandan link school, Buchunya Primary in Mbale for a week in February. A new headteacher has recently been appointed, Ben Kuloba, and as I myself am still fairly new to Ffynnon Taf, it seems like a ideal opportunity to relaunch the link and build on the good work done previously by Mrs Reynolds.

The link is not about giving aid (though we help where we can) but learning about each others' lives and cultures; our similarities as well as differences. It is extremely important that the partnership is productive for both schools. I aim to set up projects that the children can work collaboratively including video tours of each school and a 'typical' school day as well as the creation of a jointly designed mural for our school garden on the theme of 'growth'.

It is with this latter project that I will be asking for your help. Art materials in Uganda are few and far between yet they are required for this design project to work. We are asking for donations of any light and compact (I have a very strict baggage allowance) materials such as sketching pencils, coloured pencils, crayons, chalks, paints, charcoal etc. The children will use these to create the designs but obviously I will leave the materials there for their future use and pleasure. As a school, we will also be donating one of our old laptops to give the children a chance to develop some basic ICT skills.

If you can help us by donating any of the art materials mentioned above, there will be a box in the hall from next Monday where donations can be placed. I will be writing concerning the visit again prior to my departure and explaining how the children can follow the visit using the school blog.

Thank you for your continued support.
