Cricket finalists

After qualifying for the county finals a fortnight ago the Ffynnon Taf cricket team arrived at Miskin Manor cricket club anticipating a great day. The weather conditions were perfect and the grass was a bit shorter and flatter that our cricket square on the school field! Out of 16 schools from as far afield as Porthcawl, Maesteg, Aberdare and Caerphilly - Ffynnon Taf found themselves in a group of 4 alongside Plasnewydd, Cwmdar and YGG Abercynon Primary schools. Against Plasnewydd the children fielded superbly with excellent catches from Deon Mota, Harri Beese and Bradley Mclellan. Unfortunately though they lost the match by 30 runs overall. Next up were Cwmdar school and this was when the Ffynnon Taf team really got going... excellent fours and sixes from Kathryn S, Hollie W and Ffion H with the bat were backed up by accurate bowling from Ryan F, Bethan H, Adam Cleeves and Ashley DM. Ffynnon Taf went on to win the game by 35 runs. In a close match Ffynnon Taf played brilliantly against Abercynon and won by just 12 runs...their good fielding on the boundaries seeing them through. This meant Ffynnon Taf came second in the group and had reached the quarter finals. In an exciting match with outstanding cricket skills shown by both teams it was a shame that Ffynnon Taf weren't quite strong enough to beat Llantrisant Primary, last year's county champiuons. Well done to our school players though - it was a great achievement to reach the quarter finals and you've really done Taff's Well proud.
